 The SOSI Model EDL-880 Environmental Data Logger is a highly versatile
and inherently flexible data logging and control unit. It is the heart
and soul of many SOSI ocean observation and environmental data logging
products and is used to control all aspects of its host system. Provided
with numerous serial, analog, digital and power interfaces, the EDL-880
can be used to control a multitude of oceanographic and meteorological
sensors, transmitters and ancillary equipment. High-resolution analog
channels allow extremely wide dynamic range signals to be captured and
stored digitally. Mid-resolution analog channels allow data from sensors
with more limited ranges to be captured with high resolution and then
truncated to suit the specific sensor requirement. The digital serial
data inputs are available for any device that has a built-in serial
interface. Spare digital and analog channels provide additional
flexibility and make the EDL-880 well suited for future upgrades and
sensors. The EDL-880 has internal switching and power management
functions that can be implemented to minimize power consumption, which
is often an issue.
EDL-880 software allows for varying sample data rates and intervals to
suit most applications. The software can be customized by using a proven
library of sensor interfaces and commands. Firmware provides a complete
suite of confidence tests that can be used to verify correct operation.
A compact flash memory card is used for long-term data storage. Custom
packaging configurations are available.
