The Deep-Sea Drilling Rig GBU-6/4000 is intended for rotary drilling of rocks (drillability class from 4 to 11) with depth of drilling up to 6m. The drill is designed to operate in water depths from 10 to 4000 m.
The drill mechanism is electro-hydraulic. The rig is equipped with a real-time video system that uses a dedicated coaxial cable in the umbilical and an underwater slipring assembly.
The diameter of the core samples is up to 93 mm. Power is supplied to the drill from the support ship through a multi-conductor tether cable.
