The SOSI DiverGPS-30 gives divers the ability to utilize all the
features of a hand held GPS system underwater. At the heart of the
DiverGPS-30 is a GPS 76 receiver manufactured by Garmin, the most
trusted name in GPS technology. The DiverGPS-30 is designed to provide
precise underwater GPS positioning using correction data obtained from
the Wide Area Augmentation System.
The SOSI DiverGPS-30 system allows a diver to determine position from a
depth of 20 meters and can be carried by the diver to a depth of 30
meters. The GPS receiver is enclosed in a small anodized aluminum
pressure housing tethered to a floating antenna. It is powered by two
standard AA batteries with a life of sixteen hours when the back-lit
display is turned on continuously. The small lightweight receiver unit
is easily held in one hand and can be strapped to a BC for easy storage.
The rugged antenna float is tethered to the receiver with a strong,
small diameter coax cable and is painted black so as to be difficult to
see during clandestine operations. Each component offers minimal
obstruction to a swimming diver and does not significantly increase
detectability of the diver.
The clear polycarbonate housing cover provides an unobstructed view of
the receiver display. The interface between housing and cover includes
an o-ring seal for maximum leak protection. The cover is held in place
with only two bolts allowing easy access to the GPS receiver unit for
mission programming and battery replacement.
Utilizing the DiverGPS-30 system requires no additional resources than
two AA batteries. It is completely self-contained.
