Turn-key ROV Kiosk

The Sound Ocean Systems, Inc., (SOSI) Pay to Fly is a turn-key, coin / dollar operated kiosk based ROV control station. Designed for modern visitor aquariums, the Pay to Fly system encourages interactive learning as children and adults control the ROV with a standard video game controller. This hands-on experience allows operators to navigate in all three dimensions throughout the tank—explore the marine environment of the tank, or even swim right up to a shark.

The ROV provided is a AC-ROV Model SP50, with a PAL CCD 550 line color camera—transmitting images in real time through the adjustable length umbilical cable to the kiosk and/or optional flat screen monitor. The ROV illuminates what it investigates with four clusters of ultra-bright LEDs. The umbilical cable reel is adjustable to prevent tangling and habitat disturbance.

The sturdy kiosk is designed to take up limited floor space and not block the view of the tanks. The kiosk comes equiped with a 19 in. monitor. Bill and coin collectors are integrated into the kiosk, activating the controller for an adjustable pre-set time. To avoid the wear and tear associated with on/off operation—the control box and entire system is constantly on with the exception of the controller (except when activated). ROV movement is limited to a percent of full power to protect the submersible and animals from incident.
