Underwater Pressure Activated Switch

Model PAS-6000

The SOSI Series PAS-6000 Underwater Pressure Activated Switches are designed and manufactured for use in fresh and/or salt water to depths of up to 6,000 meters. PAS switches can be used for a wide variety of underwater applications including the activation or deactivation of instrumentation and other electrical equipment. These switches are designed to actuate at relatively shallow depths and can be used to safely turn on or off equipment after it has been deployed from the deck of a support vessel. The switches can be mounted directly in the host instrument housing or they can be positioned externally in their own separate housing.

There are two models available and each can be obtained in either an initially open or initially closed version. Switches utilize a non-corrosive plastic body, a stainless steel piston shaft and a high repeatability micro-switch. As external pressure is applied to the assembly, the piston shaft slides within the body towards the micro-switch. When the external pressure reaches 30 psi, (approximately 67 ft. of salt water) the micro-switch is activated from open to closed, or vise versa. When the pressure is decreased back below the activation threshold, the Model PAS-3/4 switch will remain in the activated position while the model PAS- 3/4A switch will again return to its normally open or closed position.
