Inductive Modem Data Management System
The Trident IM (inductive modem) data logger and included software is pre-engineered for reliable configuration and control of data acquisition and data telemetry, in observing systems incorporating the Sea-Bird Electronics inductive modem telemetry system. It supports all Sea-Bird Inductive Modem instruments (SBE 37-IM, SBE 39-IM, SBE 37-IMP and the SBE 16plus-IM), SBE 44 Underwater Modem, and any instrument incorporating Sea-Bird's OEM component Inductive Modem Module (IMM), including Sea-Bird's Underwater IMM, Teledyne RDI Workhorse and DVS, Nortek Aquadopp, WET Labs WQM, etc.
The Trident IM intelligently minimizes power consumption, including entering/exiting low-power sleep mode. A real-time clock provides the time base and calendar for programming of events (e.g. instrument polling, data transmissions, etc.). A power indicator LED is included and extinguishes during sleep mode. The unit draws less than one microamp while in sleep mode and draws 2 Watts (maximum) during telemetry transmit. A voltage monitor prevents improper program execution that might be caused by marginal supply voltages. A 5 V and switched V+ are brought out to power small peripheral equipment.
The Trident IM data logger includes three RS-232 serial ports, one for the Inductive Modem Module (IMM) communications, one for a data telemetry modem (GSM/CDMA, Spread Spectrum RF, Wi-Fi or Iridium modem), and one for a weather multi-sensor. The telemetry interface port is also used for communication with a computer for system configuration.
The Trident IM's rugged black anodized aluminum case (6.3 in. L x 6.3 in. W x 2 in. H) is designed with robust marine applications in mind. It includes a removable belly plate for mounting in tight areas as well as optional flange endcaps for easy horizontal or vertical mounting.
