OPEN
FRAME TOW BODIES Model 143-100-001

SOSI
manufactures a variety of open frame Tow Bodies like the SeaProbe 6000
shown at right. These Towfish are generally designed for video and
photographic survey of the seafloor and other deep tow operations. They
are typically “heavy” constructed of aluminum or steel, but can also
be provided with syntactic foam flotation for neutral or slight positive
buoyancy. They are typically designed to carry video and photographic
cameras and their associated flood and strobe lights. These Tow Bodies
can also incorporate forward looking scanning sonar, side scan sonar and
sub-bottom sonar equipment. The simple open frame design allows flexible
location and easy access to the electronics housings, cameras, cable
terminations, and other critical items held within the frame. The rugged
design and structural integrity of the towfish assure the protection of
these internal components. While the majority of SOSI Tow Bodies are
towed through the water, many of our systems have been designed for
landing on and towing across the seafloor. These sled designs are not
only stable when towed through the water column, but are also stable
when landed on the seafloor and must be designed to always land right
side up. SOSI’s proven designs provide long life even in the harshest
marine and shipboard environments.
