Press Release
11/6/07
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
S
ound Ocean Systems, Inc. (SOSI) of Redmond, WA has been awarded a contract to manufacture two large Umbilical Winches to an un-named client. The contract calls for delivery of the winches within six months of contract award. SOSI’s Model UCW-40140-OHRAL Umbilical Cable Winch is designed for work class ROV umbilical storage and similar applications where space constraints dictate an overhead right angle levelwind. The winch is ruggedly constructed for platform or shipboard installation. It’s open frame steel construction and marine grade finish provide long life and ease of maintenance even in harsh environments. The SOSI UCW series winches are available with a full range of standard and optional features including certifications to ABS or DNV standards.
The winches feature separate electro-hydraulic power units, hydrostatic drives, electro-active overhead right angle levelwinds, spring applied pressure release fail-safe brakes, Lebus covers, stainless steel drip pans, and stainless steel piping & fittings. Each winch will have a storage capacity to hold 3100 meters of 36.8 mm diameter cable. They have a working line pull of 40,000 lb. and are capable of holding a static line pull of 60,000 lb. The winches have variable line speed up to a maximum of 100 feet per minute at full drum. SOSI’s umbilical cable winches can also be supplied with goal post style levelwind assemblies.
