Awarded IDIQ Contract in Support of CREI

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

S
ound Ocean Systems, Inc. (SOSI) of Redmond, WA has been notified of a contract award for an IDIQ type contract for the manufacture and delivery of moored oceanographic monitoring stations, sea surface temperature buoys, and seafloor Oceanographic Data Platforms (ODP) in support of the NMFS Honolulu Laboratory Coral Reef Ecosystem Investigation (CREI). The initial delivery will include four SOSI oceanographic data buoys (ODB), four SST buoys, and two ODPs. SOSI anticipates that over the four-year life of this contract NOAA will procure a significant number of additional systems of each type. The contract also includes the refurbishment of systems that have been recovered after being in service for one and two year deployments. These products are similar to SOSI’s previous CREI related deliveries, but the new systems will have a number of upgrades designed to enhance performance and improve ease of use. Available optional features on the new buoys include Iridium telemetry, GPS, 24-month battery packs, on-board power generation and special deployment configurations. SOSI has previously delivered nine ODBs in two configurations, standard and enhanced. They have also previously delivered six SST buoys and three ODPs for the CREI project. As with the previous deliveries, each ODB will consist of an instrumented surface data buoy and a mooring assembly including elastic mooring array and anchor. The rugged SST buoys, which are designed for shallow water applications, will also be provided with mooring lines and anchors. The ODPs will incorporate Sontek ADPs as well as Sea-Bird MicroCAT temperature and conductivity sensors. The SOSI design incorporates a removable instrument plate used to secure the sensors onto an anchor base. This unique design allows the base to be left on the seafloor while the instrument plate is removed and replaced with a new or refurbished assembly ready for deployment. This in turn allows long-term, multiple year deployments in exactly the same location year after year.
