Seafloor Systems

The principals of SOSI have roots extending back to the International Nickel Company / Ocean Management, Inc. ocean mining project. Their involvement with this program began in the early conceptual phases and continued through the very successful pilot mining tests in l978. They had overall responsibility for the design, development, test and operation of the seafloor mining collector systems, the riser system, the subsurface instrumentation system, and the navigation buoy system. The SOSI team was responsible for the development of seven remotely operated deep ocean mining vehicle systems.

SOSI products and services are used in a variety of marine fields such as oceanographic and meteorological data gathering, seafloor mapping and survey, underwater cable burial, trenching, ocean mining, sampling and military. Government agencies, academic institutions, and private companies around the world currently use our products.

SOSI manufactures passively towed, self-propelled, and stationary seafloor systems including ocean mining collectors, mechanical plows (ploughs), jetting style trenchers, simultaneous and post lay cable embedment machines, test plows, salvage systems, and other custom built systems and equipment. Industry innovations include the Benthic Disturber, the Nodule Counter, Aqua Plow, tracked jetters, wheeled jetters, the 3-Axis Inclinometer and other tailored solutions designed and manufactured to meet the technical, cost and delivery requirements of your subsea operations.

SOSI is the exclusive North and South America representative for Sevmorgeo equipment. SOSI represents a selection of core drills, penetrometer, grab samplers and other drill and seafloor mining equipment. Additionally, SOSI is the exclusive EDBOE representative for North America and carries both seafloor hydroacoustic releases and hydroacoustic navigation systems.

SOSI's involvement with Seafloor Systems continues today as a consultant and equipment manufacturer for various ocean mining, survey, deep-sea salvage, inspection and maintenance , subsea mine neutralization, trenching and cable embedment projects. Systems and components are designed and manufactured to meet the unique technical, cost and delivery requirements of our clients. In addition to custom systems, SOSI can provide any of the components we produce for our systems, or design and manufacture special parts for your own proprietary projects.
