Hydroacoustic Navigation System

Sound Ocean Systems, Inc., is the exclusive reseller of EDBOE (Experimental Design Bureau of Oceanological Engineering of the Russian Academy of Sciences) in the United States. EDBOE possesses extensive experience in the development, manufacture and supply of subsea research instrumentation. These sensors and systems are used around the world in hydrology, hydroacoustic, geophysics, geomorphology, geology, ecology and for the monitoring of coastal zones.

The EDBOE’s Hydroacoustic Navigation System (HANS) was developed to locate the position of surface vessels, towed and autonomous vehicles with respect to several bottom transponders at along base mode.

The HANS system is comprised of 8 bottom transponders, 2 retransmitting transponders operating in the “interrogation-reply” and “retransmitter-interrogation” modes and installed onboard the underwater vehicle, 1 shipboard non-directional transceiving towed hydroacoustic antenna, 1 shipboard electronic unit for transceiving signals via hydroacoustic channels and for information exchange with specialized computers, specialized computer on the basis of a front-end computer for navigation data processing and displaying as well as for information exchange between the hydroacoustic navigation system and shipboard computer system, 1 shipboard shaft. hydroacoustic antenna and varying service equipment for adjustments and maintenance.
