Cassette Sediment Trap

EDBOE possesses extensive experience in the development, manufacture and supply of subsea research instrumentation. These sensors and systems are used around the world in hydrology, hydroacoustic, geophysics, geomorphology, geology, ecology and for the monitoring of coastal zones.

The EDBOE Cassette Sediment Trap provides hard scientific data about the amounts and kinds of materials falling through the oceans toward the seafloor. The traps collect tiny particles of sediment, commonly referred to as marine snow, in a large funnel and stores samples in a collecting jar at the bottom of the system.

The trap consists of four main parts: The funnel for collection of sediments with square of 0.5 m; frame, intended to prevent the funnel from mechanical damage, with fittings; executive mechanic unit with samplers and control unit. The trap provides sequential samples, up to 12 during signed-time intervals. The time of samplers expositions is defined by the research mission and may be changed within setup limitations. The trap provide time set-up from 1 to 10 hours before the beginning of the exposition of the first sampler. Center-in-line mooring at buoy station is available.
